En route to meeting his good friend Alex Cutter, Richard Bone breaks down in an alleyway where he glimpses a man dumping something in the distance. Thinking nothing of it, Bone continues to the meeting with Cutter through the pouring rain. The next day, Bone learns that a young girl's body has been found in the alleyway, and that his abandoned car has made him a suspect. Cutter decides to investigate on his friend's behalf so that he can clear Bone's good name.
