Handsome water polo star Karcsi Szabo cares only about representing his beloved Hungary at the Melbourne Olympic Games, using his good looks to bed any woman – even his team-mates’ mother – who takes his fleeting fancy. During a student protest in Budapest against the USSR, Karcsi meets impassioned student Viki, who believes that she bears a responsibility to unshackle her homeland from communist rule. As violence sweeps through the country, drawing Karcsi and Viki together, the water polo star heads for the pool and the infamous and bloody showdown with the Soviet team that epitomised the enmity between the two nations during the 1956 revolution.
