Cabaret singer Marc Stevens tours old people's homes, entertaining the residents with his repertoire of crooning classics. En route to his next gig, Marc is stranded in the forest when his van breaks down. Seeking shelter from the weather with a kind innkeeper, Marc is completely oblivious to his host's unspoken desires - to mould the singer into a new wife, to replace the spouse who cruelly ran away many years ago.
