Freelance journalist Yoko shocks her parents by announcing that she is pregnant and that she intends to keep the baby and raise it herself. While her stepmother frets and fusses about the arrival of a grandchild, and her father vociferously demonstrates his disapproval, Yoko throws herself into her work, collaborating with good friend Hajime to research the story of pianist Jian Ewn-Ye, who gained notoriety in Japan during the 1930s.
