Daphne is accused of the murder of a young boy from a tribal family in north-eastern Afghanistan. She flees for her life and takes a new identity. More than 20 year later, Daphne has a beautiful yet socially awkward daughter called Mina. One fateful night, Mina’s parents are murdered, leaving behind the terrified undergraduate and her 10-year-old sister. They are taken into protective custody and Mina learns about her mother’s past and a secret affair with the leader of the tribal family in Afghanistan.
