Marty McFly is stranded in 1955 and Doc Brown is trapped in rootin’ tootin’ 1885. Marty learns that Doc is killed by Biff’s great-grandfather Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen in the Wild West so he repairs the Delorean time machine and travels back to the late 19th century to avert disaster. In the process, Doc hatches a daring plan to use a locomotive to push the Delorean to the correct speed to travel back to 1985 and he falls head over heels in love with plucky passenger Clara Clayton.
