Overgard survives a plane crash in the snow-laden wilderness of the Arctic Circle. He manages to fish through the ice and constructs a primitive dynamo as he awaits rescue. When a helicopter finally arrives, Mother Nature unleashes her fury and the craft plummets to the ground. The pilot is killed and a female passenger is badly injured. She remains in a coma as Overgard drags her from the helicopter wreckage back to his makeshift sanctuary.
