Debra Callahan lives in Pennsylvania with her teenage daughter Bridget, who has an infant son called Jesse. The infant's father, Tyler, drifts in and out of Bridget's life and Debra attempts to support her daughter. She is aided by older sister Katherine, who lives across the street with her husband Terry and children. When Bridget goes on a date with Tyler, Debra agrees to babysit little Jesse. The teenager never returns. Debra embarks on a long and painful quest for answers.
