In the 4th century, Alexandria is a city dominated by men and divided by religion. Philosophy professor Hypatia – an atheist – is one of the few voices of reason as pagans clash with the Christians and blood is spilt on the steps of the ancient library. Loyal slave Davus, who has been at Hypatia’s side for years and secretly covets her, is tempted to join the Christian cause while his mistress continues her studies to understand the movement of the Earth around the sun.
