Warren Schmidt finally retires as an actuary for Woodmen Of The World Insurance Company, after a lifetime of loyal service. Suddenly, there is no direction in Warren’s life and his sense of isolation is compounded when his wife of 42 years, Helen, dies whilst vacuuming the house. With nothing to keep him in Nebraska, Warren hits the road and heads for Denver, where he hopes to make peace with his estranged daughter Jeannie and perhaps prevent her marrying a loser water bed salesman.
