Avid mountain climber Aron Ralston embarks on a hiking trip in Utah, beginning on his mountain bike and continuing on foot. En route, he meets Megan and Kristi, who invite him to a party they are hosting later. Aron accepts and continues alone on his expedition. As he attempts to traverse the canyon, the rocks give way. Aron regains consciousness with his right arm pinned against the wall of the canyon by a heavy boulder.
