Victoria Beckham is the reason the Spice Girls have cut their world tour short.

Victoria told her bandmates – Emma Bunton, Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Mel B – she was tired of performing, forcing them to scrap several concert dates, and wants to focus on her fashion career and her children.

The 33-year-old star, who has three children with her soccer star husband David, said: “I was very nervous about going back into the Spice Girls because I didn’t want to send out a confused message. The reason I decided to do the tour was to show my kids that mummy was once a pop star.

“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I’m not in the music industry any more. I’m in the fashion industry. I’m putting together a team of people now so it will be my main project when I finish this tour in a month.”

Victoria is adamant she will never perform with the band again, adding: “It’s the last opportunity there will be to see the Spice Girls together.”

The brunette star, also known as Posh, was said to have reached “rock bottom” on tour last Thursday (31.01.08), spurring her husband to charter a private jet and rush to see her in Canada.

A source said: “Victoria was pretty distraught. She complained to David that the tour has got too much for her. She is devoted to her family and would rather be at home with her children. She is counting down the days until the end.”

Following reports of poor ticket sales, the group confirmed on Friday (01.02.08) they have scrapped plans to perform in South Africa, Australia, Argentina and China.

A joint statement read: “Sadly, the tour needs to stop by the end of February due to family and personal commitments.

“We’ve had such an amazing time over the past three months. It’s been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round.”

The band’s spokesman has dismissed the tour was cut short due to a lack of interest, insisting: “The girls want to get back to their families, it’s not about lack of demand.”

The Spice Girls tour will now finish in Toronto, Canada, on February 26.
