The 56-year-old rocker has been sporting a greying beard while on a reunion tour – which ends on Thursday (07.08.08) with a performance in at New York’s Madison Madison Square Garden – with his band The Police, but has no intention of shaving his stubble.
Asked whether the facial hair had resulted in him losing female fans, Sting – real name Gordon Sumner – exclaimed: “The ladies love it!”
His wife, 54-year-old Trudie Styler, was quick to add she “liked” her husband’s new look, explaining she found the beard a turn on.
The outspoken couple are famously vocal about their healthy sex life.
They have previously admitted practicing tantric sex which enables them to enjoy marathon love-making session.
The Police’s series of performances is one of the five biggest money-making rock tours of all time.
The group originally planned to end their reunion show last year, but were enjoying performing together so much they kept adding dates. Their final show will be the 96th of the tour.
Guitarist Andy Summers said: “People don’t really change. We’re the same three jerks we always were. I’m actually quite proud of the fact that it’s gone on as long as it has.
“I’m in front of the stage and you literally see people break out into sobs or kiss each other and jump around expressing joy. It’s been quite emotional in many ways.”
