The Rolling Stones guitarist – who featured in the legendary director’s 1978 concert film The Last Waltz, as well as his new Stones documentary Shine a Light – would love to appear in a sequel to Oscar-winning crime drama The Departed.

Speaking at the London premiere of Shine a Light last night (02.04.08), he said: “It is fantastic working with Scorsese. I worked with him on The Last Waltz 30 years ago, now we’ve done our second picture, and I told Martin, ‘I’m looking forward to our third.’ Maybe I could be in The Departed part two, who knows?

“His films are wonderful. My favourite is probably Raging Bull with Robert De Niro.”

Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger shares Ronnie’s admiration for Scorsese.

He said: “It was wonderful working with Martin and we had great fun making the movie. It was a fantastic experience.”

The band – Mick, Ronnie, guitarist Keith Richards and drummer Charlie Watts – were joined on the red carpet by a galaxy of stars including Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and his wife Nicole Appleton, British comedian Noel Fielding and Meet the Spartans star Sean Maguire.

Shine a Light sees Scorsese film The Rolling Stones in concert at New York’s Beacon Theatre over two nights in New York in 2006. It also features interviews with the band from the past and present.
