The former American football star – who has been detained at Las Vegas’ Clark County Detention Centre since his arrest on Sunday (16.09.07) for alleged armed robbery – has been released after appearing in a Las Vegas court yesterday (19.09.07).

He has been banned from contacting potential witnesses or from leaving the US.

The 60-year-old was arrested in Las Vegas after he tried to forcefully reclaim his own sports memorabilia from official dealers at a hotel room in Las Vegas’ Palace Station Hotel and Casino on Thursday (13.09.07).

He now faces 10 felony charges – two counts of kidnapping with a deadly weapon, two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon and coercion with use of a deadly weapon.

Simpson also faces a misdemeanour charge of conspiracy to commit a crime. The former sports star – who appeared in the Naked Gun trilogy – denies using any firearms, and says it was merely a “confrontation” to get the memorabilia, which included his Hall of Fame certificate, autographed sports collectibles, a video of his first wedding and a photograph of him with
former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

Two other men, Clarence Stewart and Walter Alexander, have also been questioned in conjunction with the incident.

Police are still looking for three other suspects.
