The band are expected to announce their biggest ever run of shows, which could last for up to 18 months in support of their new album Dig Out Your Soul.

A source revealed to The Sun: “This tour is bigger than anything the band have done before.

“They will be on the road for more than a year – possibly pushing 18 months. The dates could easily run into three figures and will take them around the world. It is on the kind of scale you would expect from the Rolling Stones.”

The band are set to kick off the tour at London’s Wembley Stadium before performing to a home crowd in Manchester, as well as an intimate performance at London’s Roundhouse.

The tour will coincide with the release of their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul, which goes on sale on 6 October.

The source added: “The people who have hatched the plan are very excited.”
