The 27-year-old singer made her first UK performance in almost a year, rocking the stage almost half-an-hour late dressed as a bandit brandishing a knife, with a black bandana covering the lower half of her face.

The star – who was forced to cut her Born This Way Ball tour when she underwent surgery in February – told fans: “To say that I’ve missed you, it’s a bit of an understatement. When I’m without you, I can’t live.”

Gaga – real name Stefani Germanotta – compared herself to Dorothy from the The Wizard of Oz, claiming she finally felt like she’s home.

She explained: “I’m a bit like Dorothy right now. There’s no place like home.”

Gaga played an hour-long set performing seven songs from her upcoming third studio album, ARTPOP, witnessed by a host of celebrity supporters in the audience including Adele, Niall Horan from One Direction and TV personality Arlene Phillips.

Katy Perry is to close the iTunes Festival on 30 September.
