The Spider-Man actress checked into Utah’s Cirque Lodge treatment facility – which counts Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes among its former patients – in February to be treated for depression, which she claims was brought on by her need to please others.

She said: “When you spend your entire life as a child actress, being told where to go and where to stand, you’re performing constantly for people. It definitely breeds the kind of person who’s dependent on other people’s approval.

“If I’d trusted myself and listened to myself all the times that I ignored myself, I would have been fine. But everyone has to learn their lesson, and now I’ve got it.”

The 26-year-old star, who was treated at the facility for several weeks, is now feeling “great” but is wary of talking about her experience too much.

She explained to America’s Harper’s Bazaar: “I’m great. I don’t want to go into too much detail because I give a quote and then it’s blogged about for the rest of my life on the internet.”

The actress also laughed off rumours she is dating Drew Barrymore’s ex-boyfriend Justin Long, claiming she barely even knows him.

She said: “Those rumours are the funniest thing on planet Earth. I don’t know him from Adam. I met him once and he and his friend were kind enough to walk me home. I’ve never seen him since.”
