The duchess – who received criticism for her documentary earlier this year in which she gave dietary advice to a family in Hull, Yorkshire – will be joining her daughter, Princess Beatrice, in a documentary about Romania’s orphanages.

A camera crew will accompany her to document the trip which will coincide with the 15th anniversary of her charity Children In Crisis.

A source said: “It will be sleeves rolled-up work, not just wandering around looking at things. It will be also be Beatrice’s charitable debut.”

Princess Beatrice’s involvement in the trip is likely to detract from criticism she has been receiving that her “mind-improving” gap year – which has seen her enjoy visits to several different countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Egypt, Los Angeles and Belgium – has just been a series of holidays.

While ITV and the duchess’ spokesperson were reluctant to discuss details of the show, which will be filmed this autumn, the spokesperson did say: “A number of projects are in the pipeline, but nothing has been confirmed.”
