Emma Thompson likes getting older.

The 49-year-old actress insists her advancing years are more of a blessing than a curse as she is now more relaxed about her career.
She said: “I feel that my age and station give me a certain amount of leg room. I’m not cramped by fear of failure or I think it would be good to fail.
“I’ve done it spectacularly from time to time. I think it’s a help getting older because you worry so much less about that.”
Emma’s latest big screen role sees her play Lady Marchmain in Brideshead Revisited, but she admits she was too rebellious to watch the original TV series.
She explained: “I didn’t see the original because I was a very young woman when that came out and I was a punk rocker.
“I was wandering about in London with chains and black eye-shadow and not much interest in seeing it at all.”
Brideshead Revisited is released in cinemas this week. The original TV series, based on the book by Evelyn Waugh, aired in 1981.
