Sir David Jason has slammed plans for a US remake of Only Fools and Horses.

The 71-year-old actor – who played Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in the original series – believes the comedy won’t translate well in America because its humour is so quintessentially British.
He said: “They can do brilliant comedy but I don’t think that they can bring off Fools and Horses. I don’t see that it will travel across the pond.
“The language will have to change so much and there will be so many parts of the storyline you have to change. It’s so London and so British in its humour that you wonder. I have no idea what the American equivalent of ‘plonker’ is, for example. Or ‘dipstick’.”
However, if the ABC show does go ahead, David has already decided on who he wants to star as Del Boy.
He told the Daily Mirror: “I’d go for Johnny Depp because he’s such a good actor.”
No stars have yet been confirmed for the project, but American Pie’s Jason Biggs has been tipped to play Rodney Trotter, while Steve Carrell from The Office is reportedly set to star as Del Boy.
Elsewhere, Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams has been linked to the part of Uncle Albert.
In a statement to announce the remake, a spokesperson for ABC said: “The show will be based on the iconic British series.
“This classic comedy chronicles the misadventures of two streetwise brothers and their aging grandfather as they concoct outrageous, morally questionable get rich quick schemes in their quest to become millionaires.”
