The exhibition will be open free of charge to the public on Thursday May 21 from 10.00am to 10.00pm. Visitors will be able to view and read about the exclusive portraits and enjoy refreshments in the Rose Langton rooms.
The collection features the world’s most celebrated actors, each of whom posed exclusively for Empire in celebration of the magazine’s 20th birthday. They include: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman, Ben Stiller, Matt Damon, Viggo Mortensen and Sean Bean, Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, Jack Nicholson, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
The portraits will then be auctioned in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity at a star-studded event to be held at the Paramount Club, 101-103 New Oxford Street, WC1 on Thursday May 28. Empire is hoping to raise a great deal of money for the children’s hospital as, not only are the framed images one of a kind, but a selection have also been signed by the artist(s) featured. In addition to these key photographs, a signed portrait of Spielberg himself will be amongst the images to be auctioned.
Bauer Media’s Managing Director, Film & Music, Stuart Williams says: “We are delighted to be sharing this unique collection of portraits with the public and film fans everywhere. Empire magazine worked closely with director Steven Spielberg in commissioning this incredible set of photographs. It is a great pleasure to be able to exhibit the images in this way and then to be able to auction them in support of Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, a cause close to Empire’s heart.”
Antonia Dalmahoy, Director of Corporate Partnerships, GOSHCC, said: “We are very excited about our relationship with Empire magazine – the money raised will make a huge difference to the patients of Great Ormond Street Hospital and their families. Every year we need to raise 50 million to allow Great Ormond Street Hospital to remain at the forefront of child healthcare. Without it we would not be able to offer the same specialist treatments and services and to have the buildings and paediatric equipment that we need.”
