Diana’s Lovers: Philip Dunne

Job

Merchant Banker

Looks

Chiselled bones, developed body, elegant deportment

Character

Smoothy. Known as a charming companion for social occasions, Dunne done good for himself when he marshalled his considerable forces of charm to entertain Diana on a trip to top skiing resort Klosters in 1987.

Modus Operan-Di

Laid back charm appears to have been the Dunne calling card, an approach that went down well with the princess who called him “very sweet.” In stark contrast to Charles, Dunne is an accomplished dancer and stepped across the floor with Diana both on the skiing beano and at later dates.

Did he, y’know…eh?

The chances that Dunne did the business with Diana look pretty slim as the pair were usually not alone when together, if you see what I mean. Also, Prince Charles himself okayed Dunne’s presence on the Klosters trip as he was keen for his wife to have enough diversions to allow him to hit the slopes without causing trouble.

Nevertheless, rumours of a romantic nature did gain currency in high society gossip circles after it emerged that Diana had spent weekends with Dunne at his parents country house while they were away.

What went wrong?

If there was ever anything serious or physical between the pair, it came to an abrupt halt when the press cottoned on to the friendship, printing pictures of Diana and Dunne along with nudge-nudge captions.

Do Say

“Save the last dance for me, and I’ll put some rather interesting investment portfolios your way.”

Don’t Say

“Save the last dance for me.”
