Henry Ford II dispatches his best team to Italy to meet Enzo Ferrari and discuss a buyout. The deal collapses at the last minute and Ford feels personally insulted by Ferrari's conduct. In response, he orders his company's racing division to build a car capable of humiliating Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans 24-hour race. Revered automotive designer Carroll Shelby accepts the seemingly impossible challenge. He approaches daredevil driver Ken Miles to sit behind the wheel of the Ford GT40.
