The Royal Opera: Les Pecheurs De Perles

Director: Antonio Pappano (cond)
Year: cond

Two concert performances by The Royal Opera bring an exotic opera of passion and jealousy to the Royal Opera House for the first time since 1920. It is a glorious score, full of the melodic gift for which Bizet, the composer of Carmen, is so loved. The duet ‘Au Fond Du Temple Saint’ may be one of the most immediately recognised of all opera duets of all time, but the music of Les Pecheurs De Perles contains a wealth of equally wonderful choruses and solos, all coloured with a musical exoticism that evokes the setting of the drama in ancient Ceylon. Antonio Pappano, Music Director Of The Royal Opera conducts a top cast of soloists: Nicole Cabell in the title role, with Gerald Finley and John Osborn in his Royal Opera debut as the friends who are tested by love for the same woman. And of course, it is a great opportunity to hear the magnificent worldclass performances of the Royal Opera Chorus and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House in a rich and rewarding score from a composer of pure melodic genius.
