Anna Welles lives in a cramped flat with her daughter and granddaughter. She suffers from amnesia as a result of a traumatic incident buried deep in her subconscious. Anna crosses paths with DCI Bernie Reid at the scene of a brutal murder and instantly catches the eye of the cop, who is an insomniac in the throes of an acrimonious divorce. Bernie tracks down Anna and develops a powerful attraction to her, despite her obvious mental imbalance.
