The world-famous bands will battle Muse and Kings of Leon for the prestigious prize at the ceremony held by the British music magazine.

Elsewhere, Australian star Gabriella Cilmi is up against British singers Duffy and Adele, as well as Santogold and Bon Iver, for the Breakthrough Award.

Duffy also features in the Best Track category for her hit single Mercy, but will have to beat Keane‘s Spiralling, Coldplay’s Violet Hill, Katy Perry‘s I Kissed A Girl and The Ting Tings‘ catchy single That’s Not My Name.

The Ting Tings and Coldplay will also go head-to-head in the Best Video group for the same tracks, but face stiff competition from the promos for Hot Chip‘s Ready For The Floor, Goldfrapp‘s Happiness and Vampire Weekend‘s A-Punk.

The nominees are voted for by fans both online and through Q magazine and the winners will be announced at London’s Grosvenor House hotel on 6 October.
