The Mercy singer believes it is healthy for fans to see their idols’ flaws because it shows everybody has problems in their lives.

She said: “In a really weird way, I think those kind of people show others it’s all right to be human – for all their faults.”

Duffy, 23, says she has not always been a good girl, but is happy with her current quiet lifestyle.

She added in an interview with Clash magazine: “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, so don’t say I’m some kind of clean slate, virginal angel. But I’ve not got any issues right now, which is good.”

The Welsh star – whose record Rockferry is currently at number one in the UK album charts – also revealed she is still struggling to come to terms with fame, after years of trying to break into the music industry.

She explained: “It was a slow process but as soon as the doors were open it went mental. I get chased by people on motorbikes and things. It’s not something that
anyone can really prepare you for.”
