Lonely divorcee Margaret Brady works in a charity and lives on the outskirts of Dublin, separated from her ex-husband Matt and their 18-year-old son Patrick. Out of the blue, Matt pays her a visit to let Margaret know that Patrick has gone missing. Soon after, she discovers a battered and bloody teenager, Joe, outside the charity shop and in need of her help. Surprisingly, Margaret tends to Joe and offers the wayward youngster use of her spare room until he gets back on his feet.
