Anna lives in Sicily on the estate that once belonged to her ex-husband’s family. She is consumed with despair because her beloved son Giuseppe has died in an accident and Anna and her neighbours have just laid him to rest. Giuseppe’s girlfriend Jeanne is unaware of her beau’s passing and she arranges a visit to the island shortly after the funeral. Unable to break the devastating news to Jeanne, Anna lies and says that Giuseppe isn’t home and she dispatches her trusty caretaker Pietro to collect the girlfriend from the airport.
