US Air Force Commander Jack D Ripper loses his flimsy grasp on reality and orders an attack on the Soviet Union’s strategic targets, which can be stopped with a three-letter code known only to him. Joint Chief of Staff “Buck” Turgidson briefs the US President and his advisers on the unsanctioned military action.
