Notting Hill Carnival Sees Fall in Arrests

NOTTING HILL Carnival 2010 saw crime drop by a third compared to last year's event, according to the police.

Out of the million-plus people who turned up on the streets of sunny west London over the Bank Holiday weekend, only 230 were arrested by Metropolitan Police.

That's about 1 in 5,000, better than you'd get at your average football match or large night club.

"Most carnival-goers had a fantastic time, with the large part of the Bank Holiday weekend passing without serious incident," said the Met's Chief Inspector Jo Edwards.

"We've managed to target a large number of known troublemakers and have taken large quantities of drugs and weapons off the streets."
