The party book author – younger sister of Duchess Kate – had been invited to open the specialist designer and vintage sale at the shop, which kept aside the very best donated fashion items for the occasion.

Customers will be able to buy pieces from Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Dior at hugely reduced prices in time for Christmas, with all proceeds going to the charity.

While she has there, Pippa, 29, took time to speak to the shop’s volunteers and she impressed them with her down-to-earth attitude.

Shop volunteer Norma Buhler told the MailOnline: “It was such a pleasure to meet Pippa.

“She was so sweet. It is so amazing of her to come and do this for the Red Cross. She said she often walks past and looks in and she wanted to do something for us.”
