The third in line to the British throne has plans to join a Walking With The Wounded charity expedition of injured servicemen in a race to the South Pole.
Co-founder of the charity, Edward Parker, said the prince – who has previously joined servicemen on part of a trek to the North Pole – was very keen to be involved.
He told the Daily Telegraph: ”He would love to do it – he’s told us so. He’s a 26-year-old bloke who loves adventures, and the core of what he is, is a soldier.
”He considers himself to be one of them, and they consider him to be one of them, too.”
The expedition is being planned for next year and will involve around a dozen injured servicemen racing in teams.
Edward added: ”That element of competition will give it an extra edge. We just have to wait and see now if the prince’s military and royal commitments would allow it.
”If he is able to show his support for the wounded, then he will undoubtedly do so. It’s very close to his heart.”
The prince was left upset after another Walking With The Wounded team had to abandon plans to scale Everest – the tallest peak on earth – earlier this year, after unseasonably warm weather left the mountain like ”a death trap”.
Paying tribute the royal said: ”Sadly, I understand that they have been frustrated from reaching the summit by the unusually warm weather, which brings particularly dangerous conditions. However, the mere fact that they are up there on that fearsome peak, I find totally amazing.”
