“Robbie is one of the outstanding artists and performers of his generation,” said Ged Doherty of the BRITs committee.

“It will be an absolute thrill to have him at the BRITs 30th anniversary show receiving the Outstanding Contribution Award. We are delighted.”

The Outstanding Contribution… award will make it 12 BRITs in all for Robbie, more than any other solo artist of all time ever.

The BRITs news ends an eventful week for the former Take That heart-throb.

Robbie was slated for his display on the X Factor on the weekend, but then gained plaudits for his performance at the BBC Electric Proms at the Roundhouse and more hints were dropped that he and his former boy-band-mates are to get back together.

The 2010 BRIT Awards are to be held at Earls Court on 16 February.
