So what’s the Big Idea?…
The Big Chill House
Over the past 3 years The Big Chill House has succeeded in keeping to, and expanding upon, the governing principles of the Big Chill brand. With acts from Beardyman to Tom Middleton; Suggs to the Mighty Boosh: It is a place of many virtues, appealing to a vast cross section of the London community. From people popping in for a post work wind down, to festival pilgrims needing a regular fix of original, eclectic and innovative music to sit back and imagine they’re in a field to, The Big Chill House has played host to them all.
So here’s to the last 3 years, the next 3 years and many, more…
The Big Chill Festival

From its genesis as a Sunday all-dayer in Islington’s Union Chapel, and an outdoor event the following summer which saw 700 people gather in the Black Mountains on the Welsh borders, The Big Chill’s main annual event upgraded to Eastnor Castle Deer Park in the beautiful setting of the Malvern Hills in Herefordshire in 2002. It has since upped its numbers to 35,000 in 2007 whilst retaining its intimacy. The community lives on throughout the year through the bars, website and its associated forum.
Starting on Thursday evening and rollercoasting till Monday morning the festival boasts two big live music stages, graced over the last few years by the likes of Leonard Cohen, The Go! Team, the late great Isaac Hayes, Lily Allen, Seasick Steve, Amadou and Mariam, and Amy Winehouse.
The dance tent has hosted countless djs from across the musical spectrum, ranging from US house legend François Kervorkian, UK hip hop hero Roots Manuva and Brasil’s drum n bass superstar DJ Marky, as well as championing fresh new talent such as Flying Lotus, Morgan Geist and Toddla T.
The cocktail bars constantly push great drinks to an eclectic soundtrack from the likes of the late great John Peel, star in the making Benga to party time favourites A skillz and The Nextmen.
This year’s line up is keeping the standard by once again showcasing some extraordinary talent. From the headline acts of David Byrne, Orbital and Basement Jaxx to the world class DJ talents of Norman Jay, Tom Middleton and Greg Wilson along with high quality comedy, poetry and exclusive visual feasts. The Big Chill are set to once again host the premier festival experience of this summer.

Big Chill Artists
Music is a key part of our ongoing vision. The Big Chill follows its own musical instincts, and is seen as a tastemaker. As early as 96, Melody Maker described the festival line-up as “full of the messiahs of new music”, and many of those messiahs, given early exposure at our events, have now built substantial followings – notable examples being Zero 7, Gotan Project, Royksopp, Tom Middleton, Mr Scruff, Lemon Jelly, Fila Brazillia, Talvin Singh, Bent, Amy Winehouse and Goldfrapp.

The Big Chill music policy tends to be anti-genre pigeonholing, as we encourage our DJs to play broad and varied sets. At a Big Chill event, you can expect to hear everything from classical to dance music, including folk, jazz, hip-hop, world music, funk, soul, blues, pop, lounge and ambient.
