I went to see the first show of this Halloween run in Twickenham today. Circus is a bit of a marmite thing – you either love it or loathe it. Personally I’m a fan and frankly it’s not really about us adults anyway: ‘Circus Is For Kids’.

This was our first time at Zippos Circus, due to commitment clashes we missed the recent run of our family regular, Santus Circus, which plays each year in nearby (to us) Raynes Park.

Still, it gave me a chance to see Ringmaster legend Norman Barrett (MBE, no less – see picture below) strut his stuff in the ring. He didn’t disappoint – proving a consummate master of the big tent – adding a fancy canary bird act to boot.

Without out a doubt though, our favourite moment was the jaw-dropping Wheel Of Death act. The high jinks, without a safety net, were very scary indeed. Perfect for Halloween.

Our three year old daughter kicking and screaming “I want to see it again” in the back of the car on the way home is a recommendation only the most foolish clown could ignore.
