The 26-year-old royal – Queen Elizabeth’s eldest granddaughter – is said to be in talks to appear in the BBC One programme along with rugby star boyfriend Mike Tindall.

Producers are determined to get the couple as they will add a touch of royal glamour.

A source said: “The BBC are going all-out to get Zara and Mike to sign up. They could be real contenders.”

The show pairs celebrities up with professional dancers, who teach their star pupil Latin and ballroom routines. If Zara and Mike do sign up, they will be only the second couple to compete in the show.

Last year saw husband and wife Gabby and Kenny Logan battle it out on the dancefloor.

Zara is not the first royal to be approached to star in a reality TV show. Her cousin Princess Beatrice has reportedly been asked to appear on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! which features stars living in the Australian jungle and tackling challenges including eating bugs and being covered in rats.

However, royal insiders believe Beatrice is unlikely to be allowed to accept the offer, saying: “She is fifth in line to the throne and consorting with D-list celebs and munching witchetty grubs on prime-time TV is not exactly something her grandmother would be likely to approve of.”
