Charles At 60: The Passionate Prince gives a rare insight into the prince’s work, and includes footage filmed over the past year at Clarence House, Highgrove in Gloucestershire and Birkhall in Scotland.

Executive Producer Nick Vaughan-Barratt said: “Many people have a view about the prince but few people know him well. This film looks behind and beyond the headlines at the man himself.

“It shows the prince using his substantial influence to further a wide variety of causes – some of them unfashionable, some controversial – and it provides a rare opportunity to hear him speaking directly, not just about what he does but why he is so passionate about the many causes he espouses.”

Although details of the programme’s content have not yet been released it is believed it will contain footage of many of the prince’s official visits over the last year, including his trip to the Caribbean in March.

The documentary will be shown in the run up to Prince Charles’ 60th birthday on November 14.

Last year, the television corporation came under fire after it released footage which falsely suggested the queen stormed out of a photoshoot with photographer Annie Leibovitz following a row over whether the monarch should remove her crown.
