LIAM FOX, Tory spokesperson for defence, had a laptop stolen from his London home last night, a computer that contained information to be used by his boss David Cameron in tonight’s TV debate for party leaders.

“Police were called at 7.20 this morning to an address near SE1 after reports of a burglary,” said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police.

“Officers are currently in attendance and the burglary squad from Southwark are investigating. No arrest has been made.”

As well as the laptop, burglars made off with Fox’s mobile phone and, according to some reports, briefing papers for tonight’s foreign affairs debate.

Given that the war in Afghanistan is to play a big part in the debate, Fox, as Tory defence chief, is likely to have major input.

Together with Cameron, the second live TV set-to features Prime Minister Gordon Brown and opinion poll favourite, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.

“I’m very sorry for Liam, but I’m sure Liam will want us to get on with the plan we have today for our armed forces manifesto,” said Cameron.
