The Royal College of Art’s secret postcard exhibition starts tomorrow (14.03.13), as thousands of punters hope to buy a piece by a top artist or famous name for just £45.

Held at the Dyson Building, the RCA’s Battersea branch, the exhibition features 2,500 postcards designed by artists unknown and famous. The catch is it’s a lucky dip – the artist’s name is on the back of the card and you’re not allowed to see it until your £45 is safely in the till.

A few lucky buyers in previous years have seen their £45 investment pay off in spades. One later sold a Peter Doig card for £42,000 and another cashed in to the tune of £ for a Tracey Emin pen drawing.

Famous card artists, designers and photographers involved in this year’s secret sale, which raises money for the college, include David Bailey, Manolo Blahnik, film director Mike Leigh, Julian Opie, Wallace and Gromit’s Nick Park, Paula Rego, and Sir Paul Smith.

While the exhibition of the cards starts tomorrow, the sale itself kicks off on Saturday, 24 March. There’s a maximum of four cards per person.

More info – including how to register for the sale – is at the official RCA Secret 2013 site.
