Vessels large and small are to be included in what will become a seven mile long water-pageant and the general public will have the chance to join in, either with their own boats; on board one of the large passenger boats commandeered for the event, or as part of the hundred thousand-plus crowd expected to line the banks of the Thames.
“I cannot conceive of a more fitting celebration of Her Majesty’s 60 years on the throne than a majestic flotilla of vessels, large and small, winding their way along the iconic River Thames and showcasing our proud maritime history,” said London Mayor Boris ‘Botswana’ Johnson on hearing the news.
To be held on Sunday, 3 June 2012, the flotilla forms part of the long weekend of celebrations of the Queen’s reign over us. Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 June are to be Bank Holidays.
