CATERING TO EXHIBITIONISTS AND LONERS, a bizarre glass-fronted mini-hotel is set to offer unique London accommodation from January 2012.

Billed as a ‘one-bedroom installation’, the boat-shaped pod hotel will be sat perched above the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the London 2012 Festival. It follows a design competition ‘A Room for London‘, which attracted entries from around 500 architects and artists from across the world.
The winning design, dubbed Roi des Belges, is by architect David Kohn and artist Fiona Banner who say the structure “will appear to have come to rest there, grounded, perhaps, from the retreating waters of the Thames below.”
“From the lower and upper ‘decks’ of this beautifully crafted timber structure, there will be extraordinary views of a London panorama that stretches from Big Ben to St Paul’s cathedral”.
Bookings for the installation open on 8 September 2011 for the first six months of next year, with the remainder of the year bookable from January 2012.
