Proceeds from the world premiere of the film, the 23rd instalment in the spy franchise, are due to go to real life retired spies from MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, on the suggestion of Prince Charles himself.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall – dressed in an elegant violet gown – and Charles stopped to speak with most of the film’s stars, including Daniel Craig, who plays Bond, Dame Judi Dench and Berenice Marlohe.
Co-stars Naomie Harris, Javier Bardem, the villain of the piece, and Ben Whishaw, who stars as Q, were also on the carpet.
Craig – who played 007 in 2006 movie Casino Royale and 2008’s Quantum of Solace – later said the Skyfall premiere was the “biggest and best” he’s ever been to.
He said: “The reception is incredible. This is my third Bond premiere and it’s the biggest and the best.”
Craig has also had another brush with royalty this year, appearing as James Bond in a filmed sketch with the Queen for the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games, in which they both appeared to skydive out of a plane.
Of the filming he said: “It was quite surreal to be in the palace with the queen. She was fun, incredibly game and she improvised a little bit.
“She was supposed to be sitting at the desk and she asked if she could write, so she pretended to write.” Improv genius.
