John Otway has a lot in common with Icarus – he aimed high but fell horribly short.
In 2008 John planned a spectacular World Tour on his very own chartered plane. He would take his fans with him and circumnavigate the globe. The venues were booked, the fans signed up, the stewardess outfits were designed…..
Things had been going so well… but then came a disaster of such magnificent proportion the like of which no other self-styled rock star can claim or has even attempted.
Not that John is a stranger to being a huge success at failure. His first hit occurred in 1977 and wasn’t followed by a second one until he was 50. He wrote a book about the process.
I Did It Otway (Regrets I’ve Had A Few) is the follow up to that book. It is not the book John planned to write but it is the book that had to be written.
Published on May 17th it details how and why Otway came to think his great enterprise was possible. It’s the story of how he planned to make a comeback as rock ‘n’ roll’s Biggest Success.
It details the mounting positives that led him to believe that he and he alone could attempt the near on impossible. It chronicles exactly why he embarked on a project he hoped would put his name indelibly into the pages of Rock and Roll history.
I Did It Otway tells another story of failure and it isn’t funny – it’s hilarious!
