Polish officer Janusz is sent to a Russian gulag in the frozen wastelands of Siberia, where he meets Khabarov, who claims that escape is possible. They must cut the electrical wire fence during a snow storm and head south, covering the hundreds of miles to safety at Lake Baikal.
