Undocumented Thai migrant Oom works as a carer in rural Taiwan under the control of gangster Hsing. Operating as Hsing's right-hand man, Oom is the first port of call when the gangster fails to pay other workers for their toil. A carer falls sick, and to prevent unrest Oom steps in as cover. He inherits a new patient, Hui, who has cerebral palsy, and his elderly mother Mei. Oom is deeply moved by Hui's plight and wrestles with his conscience.
