Teresa returns to the Brazilian town of Bacurau in a state of emotional turmoil for her grandmother's funeral. She is shocked to discover that the water supply was stopped several months ago and the town no longer features on any maps. Curiously, there is no GPS signal and one local claims to have seen a UFO. When gunshots ring out, Teresa becomes embroiled in the fate of the community alongside drunken doctor Domingas, old flame Pacote and corrupt politician Tony Jnr.
