Re-issue of Lewis Gilbert’s enduring 1966 comedy, casting Michael Caine as the titular Cockney chirper and womaniser. Talking directly to camera (and treating the audience as a confidant), Alfie beds a succession of young women, never becoming emotionally involved with any of them. When he finally allows his defences to slip and decides to settle down, he gets his just desserts when his girlfriend dumps him for a younger man.
