Deaf student Shoko Nishimiya transfers to a new elementary school where she becomes the prime target of Shoya Ishida, who invites his classmates to make fun of her hearing impairment. As the abuse continues, Shoya’s fellow students turn on him and scold him for his lack of understanding and compassion. He does not speak to Shoko again. Having left school, Shoya is consumed by guilt and he resolves to seek out Shoko so he can apologise in person and perhaps atone for his sins.
